This is a hybrid position with some work-from-home days and some in-office days per week; office location is downtown San Francisco, CA

STATUS: Full time, non-exempt (eligible for overtime)

The Development Associate will be a part of two separate teams within NIF and play an essential role in National Development as well as support regional San Francisco Bay Area public programs and development.

They will work directly with our Vice President of National Development to support the national development program. Working closely with the Development Operations team, they will have the opportunity to interface with regional, national, and international fundraising staff, donors, and community members–including some light support of NIF’s planned giving program. They will also be part of our San Francisco Regional team, providing essential support for public programming, development, and communication in the Bay Area, as well as some office coordinator responsibilities.

This position requires someone who is an excellent communicator, highly organized, detail-oriented, computer-savvy, friendly, resourceful, and strong on follow through. As part of the Executive Office, this position provides opportunities to interface with local, regional, and national stakeholders.


Development Associate, San Francisco Region – 40%

In this aspect of the role, the Development Associate will assume responsibility for all aspects of administrative support for public programming and fundraising in the Bay Area. They will report to the Associate Director and work closely with the Senior Regional Director. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide essential administrative support for the San Francisco region’s fundraising efforts, including gift processing, tracking donations, and managing a large donor database (Raiser’s Edge);
  • Support regional events from small salons to large annual fundraising gala;
  • Facilitate speaker events with activists from NIF grantee organizations – assisting with event and meeting support and logistics;
  • Provide fundraising support throughout the year, including processing gifts and tracking donations;
  • Draft correspondence and distribution materials as needed by the Regional Director and fundraisers;
  • Support regional fundraisers with event emails in EveryAction; drafting, editing, maintaining current event attendee lists;
  • Update and manage a large donor database (Raiser’s Edge);
  • Create and maintain various reports and mailing lists to track fundraising activities;
  • Serve as a liaison when called upon to visitors, volunteers, as well as local and national NIF staff

San Francisco Office Coordinator – 20%

  • Support Bay Area staff members with their office needs, serving as a liaison to external vendors such as IT and facilities; order snacks and supplies as needed; manage daily mail; prepare office for meetings, assisting visitors, and provide overall coordination of physical office space
  • Provide calendar support to VP of Finance, Operations, and Administration, who is located in San Francisco

National Development Associate & Special Assistant to VP of Development – 40%

In this aspect of the role, the Development Associate will provide comprehensive support to the VP of National Development as well as some supplemental support to the Chief Planned Giving Officer. This position requires a high level of professionalism, and an ability to work independently and efficiently. Specific duties include:

  • Manage calendar for VP of National Development, scheduling calls and meetings, coordinating travel and logistics, process expense reports, and providing additional administrative support as needed;
  • Process and oversee the mailing of all major donor acknowledgements from the Office of the CEO under the direction of the VP;
  • Process and acknowledge all stock gifts;
  • Support the Chief Planned Giving Officer by acknowledging certain planned gifts and organizing and updating planned giving records.
  • Track donor relationships using CRM (Raiser’s Edge) and run reports for fundraising staff, as needed;


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Highly-organized, detail-oriented, collaborative, resourceful
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and phone manner required; ability to interact professionally with staff, donors and prospects
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Comfortable with technology and interest in learning new web-based tools for research, scheduling, event promotion, and more
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets)
  • Comfortable managing day-to-day tasks as well as long-term projects
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge (or similar databases) and event email programs a plus
  • Familiarity with and interest in Israel, current events, human rights and social justice issues preferred


The salary range for this position is $49,000 – $57,500 USD annually commensurate with experience, qualification and skills.
