ABOUT THE ROLE
New Story creates market-based solutions to make land and home ownership possible for underserved families in Latin America. We are looking for a finance professional with operational grit to join our fast-moving, high-performing team.

The Asset Management & Finance Associate is a hybrid role that sits at the intersection of asset management, investment analysis and reporting, and regional financial and treasury operations. You will act as a key bridge between US capital and Latin American execution, ensuring that dollars are deployed efficiently, safely, and with maximum impact. You will work closely with team leads in Mexico City and the U.S.

The Mix: ~50% Asset Management & Financial Control | ~40% Treasury & Ops | ~10% Impact Reporting

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Asset Management & Capital Controls (The Gatekeeper)

  • Model Maintenance & Variance Analysis: Own the financial models for active land development projects. You will track monthly actuals vs. budget, updating pro-formas to reflect real-time IRR and cash-on-cash returns based on construction realities.

  • Capital Controls & Drawdown Management: Act as the technical gatekeeper for capital deployment. You will cross-reference physical site assessments with developer drawdown requests and contractual funding schedules. You are the authority who ensures quality standards are met before funding is released.

  • Site Verification: Conduct regular site visits at active real estate investments. You will look beyond the spreadsheet to verify that physical benchmarks align with reported milestones.

  • Risk Flagging: Proactively identify variances in construction costs or timelines and report risks to senior leadership before they become crises.

Accounting & Financial Operations (The Operator)

  • MX Treasury & Payment Execution: Manage full-cycle payments for Mexico entities, including payroll, taxes, and vendor/contractor settlements. Serve as the primary troubleshooter for all local banking issues (portal access, token management, wire resolution).

  • External Liaison & System Oversight: Act as a key point of contact for external MX bookkeepers, auditors, and tax advisors, ensuring they receive necessary documentation while monitoring the internal accounting system for transaction accuracy.

  • Budgeting & Variance Analysis: Oversee activity across various department and project budgets, tracking actuals against projections and reporting on financial variances to leadership.

  • Mexico Operations & Administration: Manage broader operational needs for the MX office as needed, including lease administration, coordination with notaries and legal counsel, and assisting local employees with payroll or benefits resolution.

Impact & Investor Reporting (The Storyteller)

  • Quarterly Reporting Support: Assist the leadership team in the production of quarterly investor reports by providing accurate project-level data, financial updates, and site progress narratives.

  • Impact Metric Verification: Monitor developer partner adherence to predefined impact goals, specifically gathering and auditing impact-related evidence from the field, ensuring that social performance metrics are documented and verifiable for investor disclosures.

WHO YOU ARE

  • 2–4 Years of High-Standard Finance Experience: Background in real estate, private equity, investment banking, or rigorous project finance. Experience in affordable housing or real estate development in Mexico is a strong plus.

  • Master of the "Living Model": You don't just build models; you maintain them with discipline. You excel at updating pro-formas with actuals, reconciling bank statements against budget, and running monthly variance analysis to show exactly where a project stands against its original underwriting.

  • Uncompromising Data Rigor & Integrity: You treat data as the "single source of truth." Whether you are collecting impact metrics from the field or reconciling expense reports, you prioritize accuracy over speed. You have an auditor’s mindset. You double-check inputs, cross-reference invoices with site progress, and ensure that every number in a report can be backed up by evidence. You have the courage to report the "unvarnished truth" to leadership and investors, even when the numbers reveal challenges.

  • Business-Fluent Bilingual: You can negotiate with a developer in Spanish regarding a delayed permit and immediately translate the financial implication into an executive summary for US investors in English.

  • Operational Grit: You understand that in emerging markets, excellent finance requires "in the weeds" operations. You are willing to tackle unglamorous tasks like fixing a blocked wire transfer or organizing tax receipts to ensure the business remains compliant and liquid.

  • Impact Focus: You have a genuine interest in how land and home ownership can drive economic empowerment and financial inclusion.

LOCATION, TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS & REPORTING

  • We have a hybrid work environment, with our office based in the heart of La Condesa, Mexico City.

  • Must be willing and able to travel 25% of the time to developments and projects located throughout Mexico and LATAM.

  • This role will report to the CFO, but will also work closely with the Fund Finance and Operations Manager.

BENEFITS

  • Health & Wellness. We believe in thriving communities and that starts with our team being happy and healthy. New Story currently covers 100% of Employee-Only premium costs for Major Medical Health Insurance through AXA and Life Insurance through MAPFRE. New Story will also cover 60% of premium costs for a team member's dependents. Additionally, team members are provided a Flex Benefit Card with a monthly allowance of $1,000 MXN for supermarket, food, and wellness expenses.

  • Aguinaldo. Team members receive a federal mandated holiday bonus equivalent to 15 days of pay on or before December 20. This amount will be pro-rated for team members within their first year at New Story.

  • Vacation Premium. On the first (and subsequent) work anniversary, team members will be paid their annual vacation premium bonus equivalent to the number of vacation days allotted for the year at a rate of 25%. Team members enjoy a base of 12 vacation days per year.

For the first 12 months, you'll have 12 days of PTO, 14 paid holidays, and YOUR birthday off. After year one, you can enjoy an unlimited vacation policy. This time off is paid at the regular base rate of pay.

  • Summer and Winter Breaks. We believe rest is critical to getting results. We intentionally pause as a whole company twice per year. Team members enjoy the first week of July and the week between December 24 and January 1.

  • 5-Week Sabbatical after 5th Year. At the 5-year mark, we celebrate your hard work and dedication with a sabbatical. Team members take 5 weeks off fully paid to rest, recharge, and reflect.

  • Paid Parental Leave. Primary caregivers are given 12 weeks paid time off. Secondary caregivers are given 6 weeks paid time off.

  • Adoption Reimbursement. For families who are willing to adopt, thank you! New Story will reimburse eligible team members up to $180,000 MXN for adoption related expenses.

  • Intentional Gatherings. As a remote team, we recognize how valuable and rejuvenating in-person time can be. Whether it’s an all-company Team Summit, Fun Camp for fundraisers, or spontaneous department gatherings, we set aside budget to gather in-person to have fun, reflect, and plan together.

  • Improve Thru Learning. We believe in always learning and leveling up our skills. Whether it's paying for a conference, an online course, or books, an internal Hackathon, a Tea(m) Talk, or a lunch and learn, we invest in each team member so they can be the best at their craft.

  • Trips to the Field. It’s amazing to meet the families we help and see the homes up close and personal. You'll get to visit the work first hand in either Mexico or El Salvador. Prioritization will vary by role.
