Overview

At re:power, we believe that technology is critical infrastructure for the progressive movement. For that reason, it is essential to our strategy that BIPOC have access to digital tools and data that allow us to reach, connect and build power with our people. Through training, coaching, and other forms of capacity building, our community-centered Movement Technology Program s_upports participants to effectively organize and build power by using digital tools, data, analytics and design._ Our trainings cover a broad spectrum of tools and practices including Data Strategy, VAN/EveryAction Admin, Python, SQL, Digital Organizing and more. re:power’s Movement Tech alumni have gone on to be national, regional and deputy data directors on presidential and national issue campaigns; engineers for grassroots organizations, non-profits, and tech companies; GIS and analytics directors for the White House and Federal Government; campaign managers, state directors, trainers and much more.

The Director of Movement Tech Programs is a high-level leadership role that will drive program vision, strategy, and execution. The ideal candidate will not only be able to deliver on existing trainings and curriculum but will also set a vision for the program’s future and lead on generating the necessary resources and capacity to achieve the vision. The role will be responsible for overseeing a suite of programming for digital and data practitioners; cultivating and stewarding partnerships with movement leaders, organizations and funding institutions; measuring and driving programmatic impact; supervising staff and trainers towards program outcomes; and representing the organization externally. We are seeking someone who comes out of movement-building work, with a background in either digital organizing or data and analytics.

The role reports directly to the Managing Director of Program and Partnerships and takes work direction from other members of the Executive Team. The Director of Movement Tech Programs will have a deep personal and professional connection with re:power’s core values.

Primary Responsibilities

(include but are not limited to):

Program Leadership and Strategy

  • Serve as a thought leader for movement tech programming, both internally and externally, to increase re:power’s visibility and to ensure strategic organizational growth
  • Collaborate with program team members to develop and manage:Goals, budgets and work plans that meet strategic objectives, especially related to movement tech work Integration of data and digital content across all program curricula Ladder of engagement that meaningfully engages program alumni over time and deepens the bench of adjunct trainers Internal systems, structures and processes that strengthen our collective work
  • Participate in director-level cross-organizational activities to inform and lead programmatic strategies and approaches

Partnership Cultivation and Management

  • Work with program leadership to establish annual goals for partnership cultivation and recruitment, aligned with re:power’s values, priorities, and revenue projections
  • Seek and develop new relationships with potential program partners (re:power partners with an array of movement leaders, organizations and funding institutions who are seeking training and support for their staff and constituents). As needed, collaborate with staff across the organization who have specialized subject area knowledge or networks
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager and trusted advisor to a set of partners; develop a deep understanding of their perspectives, needs and priorities; build credibility and ensure that partner standards are met
  • Work with Program Operations Manager to ensure that training logistics and finance processes are smooth from start to finish including booking travel and tracking income and expenses

Program Development and Oversight

  • Ensure that curriculum and programs are responsive to shifts in the progressive ecosystem by monitoring and integrating innovations and best practices into programmatic activities
  • Develop and promote impactful movement tech programming that supports partners and participants in advancing their goals
  • Design and adapt curriculum to meet needs of partners and participants, to foster participant learning and growth and to center racial and gender justice
  • Recruit, manage and prepare trainers and coaches to deliver excellent, high-quality trainings
  • Oversee program budgets and ensure compliance across all contracts; track program status; identify and address variances and errors

Program Delivery

  • Execute on program and budget goals excellently, on time, and in accordance with expectations set with partners and program team leadership
  • Provide ongoing support, coaching and feedback to the training team as they deliver Oversee participant communications including application process, reminder emails and sharing of resources post-training
  • Directly deliver trainings and facilitate meetings and coaching sessions, as needed

Evaluation and Future Planning

  • Gather feedback and review evaluation data (participant surveys, training team debriefs, etc.) to assess and improve the effectiveness of trainings. Collect photos, quotes and stories to use in reports to funders and partners
  • Revise curriculum based on feedback and provide program team leadership with recommendations to improve program process overall
  • Foster organizational knowledge-building and resource-sharing by providing timely, accurate program updates and reports to staff, Board, partners and funders, as needed
  • Ensure that alumni and stakeholder community is well engaged and supported over time

Experience and Skills

  • 7+ years of combined experience in organizing, electoral and/or advocacy work, with a focus on data, digital or other emerging technology
  • Proven leadership skills and management experience, including the ability to develop team performance and a genuine desire to coach and mentor others
  • Experience developing and driving impact on successful programs, including planning, budgeting, and financial management
  • Applies knowledge of pedagogy and adult learning techniques to curriculum design and to facilitation of trainings
  • Superb organizational skills, with the ability to balance multiple, competing priorities and effectively delegate tasks to others
  • Grounds work in racial equity: analyzes and addresses the structural impacts of policies, practices, and decisions on different racial groups, and works to eliminate inequities
  • Demonstrated experience organizing with, and being a trusted partner in, predominantly Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) communities
  • Enjoys working in a dynamic environment and managing the complexities of multi-stakeholder collaboration
  • Demonstrated political acumen and intellectual curiosity, and able to view old problems with fresh perspectives
  • Able to fluently navigate different movement spaces and issue areas, and bring various networks into relationship with re:power
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills
  • Willingness to work non-standard hours, including weekends, and travel when required for trainings, partner engagements, staff and Board retreats and to perform other duties of the role

Compensation for this position is highly competitive, with a starting salary of $101,000 annually. re:power offers a comprehensive benefits package, including these and other employment-related benefits:
