Position Name: National Digital Organizing Director
Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Vice President of Leadership Networks

Job Classification: Full Time, Exempt
Essential Duties: The primary responsibilities include overseeing and managing the team responsible for driving our engagement with current volunteers and potential candidates. This role will also manage Run for Something’s CRM and determine best methods for activating the people currently in our digital pipeline. Designing, tracking, and measuring user flows for the three main categories in our database: prospective candidates, supporters, and volunteers. It is the National Digital Organizing Director’s responsibility to lead the team that provides avenues of participation to people interested in being part of, or supporting, the mission of Run for Something.
Position summary:
Run for Something is currently hiring for a National Digital Organizing Director to join the Leadership Networks department. In this role, you will report to the Vice President of Leadership Networks.
This newly created position will play a critical role in scaling Run for Something’s impact to create a more just Democracy and support young progressive candidates in down ballot races by engaging and activating our grassroots supporters and encouraging young progressives from historically marginalized communities and those traditionally discouraged from running to actually run for office.
This role will set an inspiring vision and strategy on how we deepen our engagement and cultivate:
- Young progressives who are passionate about making change in their communities and encouraging them to run for local office
- Current progressive volunteers/activities ready to support young, progressive candidates in the field or online
- Grassroot supports passionate about our values who want to be involved in innovative ways
This position will develop and lead our digital strategies and platforms to reimagine how we engage with our community and tap into people’s passion and sense of purpose to take meaningful action to build long-term sustainable power for Democrats. Our National Digital Organizing Director will drive our interactions with our current network, volunteers and active and potential candidates throughout our programmatic ladder of engagement; and overseeing the creation and delivery of content.
This position is also responsible for our CRM database strategy and execution, leading industry best practices in tracking and leveraging user data to deliver optimal strategies. The National Digital Organizing Director also supervises and oversees our department’s email program, working closely with stakeholders within Leadership Networks and across the organization to deliver on our network growth, candidate recruitment, and volunteer engagement.
They will also collaborate with our National Mobilization Director who will focus on bringing in new prospective candidates, volunteers and grassroot supporters and encouraging them to be part of our movement at Run for Something (RFS).

Responsibilities
The National Digital Organizing Director will help further the RFS strategic imperatives via:
Digital Organizing Strategy (50%)
- Develop overarching vision and strategy on how we can expand and deepen our engagement with prospective candidates, volunteers and grassroot supporters to motivate them to take action
- Manage and oversee the use and implementation of CRM strategy, including our department's email program, user flows, and ladder of engagement
- Audit current processes and programming and evaluate for opportunities and deficiencies; make recommendations to strengthen engagement
- Data management and reporting, including adoption and implementation of best practices
- Build and maintain communication streams to enable information flow and smooth collaboration across key internal stakeholders and departments across Run for Something ensure internal alignment
- Partner with our National Mobilization Director, who will focus on expanding and reaching new audiences as prospective candidates, volunteers and grassroot supporters
- Generate new and innovative ideas for activating our community of prospective candidates, volunteers and supporters and present proposal to key stakeholders
- Convene regular interdepartmental and intra-departmental meetings
Pipeline Engagement (35%)
- Develop a diverse, engaging and action-oriented online community of supporters to foster connection to Run for Something and our endorsed candidates
- Oversee and develop departmental strategy for creation of organizing content and launch call-to-actions including but not limited to: candidate and supporter toolkits, trainings, webinars, and organizing calls
- Oversee the systems and processes to support prospective candidates in their decision to run
- Developing volunteers and grassroot supporters into movement builders
- Make strategic recommendations on tactics, platforms, and mobilization tools and collaborate with key internal stakeholders
- Test and pilot experiments and refine based on learnings
Leadership and management (15%)
- Assess and build the vision for where additional staffing resources are needed and lead the hiring and management of staff
- Manage, mentor, and coach staff in line with RFS values and performance management standards to ensure relevant key performance indicators are met; identify and support areas for professional development
- Supporting broader Leadership Network departmental tasks as needed
- Determining and documenting team processes, including setting priorities, aligning content across platforms, building budgets, and leading cross-team collaborations
- Tracking, measuring, and reporting data
- Managing vendors and vendor relationships
- Analyzing metrics and outcomes; recommending new actions and opportunities based on needs and goals
Key Goals
- Support RFS goals through the creation and implementation of digital organizing strategies to recruit young, diverse progressives to run for office
- Create standardized processes, guidelines, and practices for CRM data management, our department's email program, and the entire suite of platforms and touchpoints for RFS in regards to supporters, potential candidates, and active and potential volunteers
- Evaluate RFS digital organizing practices and programs and provide recommendations, with a focus on increasing retention, engagement rates, and candidate endorsement application numbers.
- Develop and execute digital organizing strategies with the goal of expanding engagement rates of young people from historically marginalized communities
- Hire and manage additional Engagement Department staff and consultants
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in digital organizing for progressive organizations, advocacy or political campaigns, social justice movements or unions with the goal of mobilizing to make positive change, as well as experience in 2+ election cycles
- Experience managing and improving CRM and email programs for national organizations
- Ability to bring a qualitative and quantitative approach to digital organizing
- Proven ability to deliver effective ladder of engagement strategies
- Experience designing and leading labor/political/advocacy organizing campaigns
- Experience creating and delivering training materials (either by video, in writing, or live in-person events)
- Experience managing teams and budgets
- Experience setting team goals, building processes, and assigning priorities
- Experience influencing others without formal authority toward a shared goal
- Experience quickly scaling up program to achieve a big goal
- Strong project management skills and experience, which includes organized, ability to turn a vision into tangible next steps, detail-oriented, coordinating across multiple departments, and managing multiple stakeholders with competing priorities
- Strategic thinking with a proven ability to develop diverse tactics that move people to action
- Ability to independently balance competing priorities, complex situations and deadlines
- Ability to build strong and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Familiarity with Airtable and other databases
- Demonstrated ability to work in and contribute to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment

- Ability to work independently for extended periods of time in a remote environment

Plus Qualifications
- Knowledge of local election campaign best practices, with experience as a candidate, paid staff, or volunteer (preferably campaign manager or digital director) in at least two campaign cycles
- Previous experience developing innovative strategies to address complex topics
- Ability to decide when to pivot and adjust timelines and deliverables based on needs and goals, including in response to candidate filing deadlines and elections
- Experience recruiting and organizing in historically marginalized communities

Work Environment
Run for Something is (and always has been and will be) a remote office environment; you will collaborate with colleagues who are based across the United States. You should be prepared to either work from home or a location of your choosing.
This position will require attendance at approximately 2 all-staff or team events per year, which may include overnight travel. Run for Something’s reasonable accommodations policy applies to employees who are unable to travel or participate in gatherings. The position involves attendance at a minimum of 3 departmental events which may encompass all or part of the work day, including overnight travel when necessary.
As Run for Something grows, your role responsibilities may evolve to ensure it's always aligned to organizational priorities and continuously contributing to our mission of recruiting and supporting young progressives running for down-ballot offices.
This position requires the ability to work core hours, Monday through Thursday. This position will require some nights and weekends work.
Essential Physical Requirements
- As this is a remote position, the person in this position must be able to communicate with colleagues, partners, and donors via phone, including conference and video calls, as well as written communication such as Slack and email.
- This position requires the ability to work on a computer for all or part of the work day.
- This position requires the ability to attend events which may encompass all or part of the work day.
- Travel may involve transportation via airplane, car travel, or trains.
- This position serves as an event representative for Run for Something, and requires the ability to lift 25 pounds, to transport supplies from location to location, and to support load in/load when on-site for events
Compensation & Benefits
Salary for this position is set at $132,600. In order to counter pay inequality and uphold internal parity, salaries are non-negotiable for new and current employees. Run for Something salary bands for a given staff level are benchmarked to the 75th percentile for our sector, and all new employees are paid at the entry point of those bands. Employees then have the opportunity to progress through current salary bands through annual cost of living increases and performance-based pay increases, and into new salary bands through promotions.
