Salary: $26.00 an hour

Be part of a historic campaign to uplift Virginia’s homecare workers by helping them win collective bargaining rights, improve working conditions, and build long-term worker power. This is a unique opportunity to stand with caregivers—many of whom are women, immigrants, and people of color—and ensure their voices are heard in their workplaces and beyond.

Position Details:

Duration: Beginning October 1, 2025; campaign role with potential extension based on performance

Key Responsibilities:

Worker Engagement & Outreach

  • Conduct door-to-door canvassing to engage homecare workers in support of the collective bargaining campaign
  • Educate workers on their rights, the benefits of collective bargaining, and how to get involved
  • Listen to worker concerns, identify potential leaders, and recruit participants for campaign events and organizing meetings
  • Meet weekly outreach and engagement goals
  • Maintain accurate records of conversations, follow-ups, and commitments

Data Collection & Reporting

  • Use digital tools like VAN/MiniVAN to log all worker interactions
  • Enter data consistently and accurately, including worker contact info, interest level, and organizing metrics
  • Sync and securely save updates to ensure real-time access for the organizing team

Organizing & Mobilization

  • Help mobilize workers for campaign events such as rallies, town halls, and information sessions
  • Support workers in taking action—signing petitions, joining committees, and attending meetings
  • Track leadership interest, event attendance, and pledge commitments

Training & Development:

  • Participate in comprehensive organizing and campaign trainings
  • Attend storytelling workshops to develop and share your personal narrative as a tool for building trust and connection
  • Join regular team meetings to stay aligned on campaign strategy, share updates, and improve field practices

Qualifications:

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment
  • Strong commitment to economic, racial, and social justice, particularly in support of care workers
  • Prior organizing experience within the labor movement, care economy, or immigrant and Black communities in Virginia is a plus, but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable using a script and speaking directly with homecare workers across diverse cultural and language backgrounds
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Proficient with basic technology: phones, tablets, and organizing tools like VAN/MiniVAN
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to meet deadlines and goals
  • Comfortable with canvassing and walking for extended periods
  • Strong attention to detail, especially in data entry and reporting

If you are passionate about organizing, worker justice, and building power from the ground up, we encourage you to apply and join us in transforming the future of homecare work in Virginia.
