Purpose: This Data Systems and Analytics capacity team position is responsible for providing operational leadership in the department’s use of voter, worker and member data.

This is a non-management leadership role that incorporates a combination of project management, technical excellence, staff mentorship and strategic planning consistent with campaign goals and the Data Systems and Analytics departments values, standards and practices.
- Provides assistance in onboarding IU and local affiliate staff with data responsibilities.
- Interfaces with organizational leaders and external contacts in complex, nuanced and sometimes sensitive stations.
- Creates and manages systematic processes shared across multiple campaigns or staff teams.
- Persons in this role are expected to be project leaders; e.g., create plans, assignments, and track progress using one or more systematic project management methodologies to define and achieve organizational goals.
- Writes original SQL code to manipulate data for campaign reporting and information workflows.
- Build reports and data visualization or maps, using tools such as Tableau.
- Exercises subject-matter expertise and thought leadership in development and exercise of the union’s data capacity.
- Administers SEIU’s campaign data, organizing databases and other technologies employed during SEIU’s political, internal and external organizing efforts.
- Provides guidance and advice to SEIU Local, State Council and International staff that enhance the union’s membership lists, voter file and Voting Age Population data.
- Provides guidance and advice to SEIU Division, Local and Organizing campaign staff that enhance organizing lists, professional registries and other potential organizing targets.
- Works closely with the management teams of various Departments and Divisions to develop and target member, worker and voter contact programs through digital, mail, phones, worksite visits and canvassing.
- Conducts extensive research and prepares detailed voter, worker or member contact reports and other documentation (graphs, charts, maps) for use by SEIU International Departments, Divisions or campaigns.
- Implements training of International, State Council, and Local Union staff in the use of campaign data and organizing technology.
- Represents SEIU in internal and external forums and maintains relations with SEIU locals and state councils.
Contacts: Include SEIU and affiliate staff and experts on data, marketing and organizing best practices.
Direction and Decision Making: This position reports to the Assistant Director for Member Data and works with a great deal of independence.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree and at least three (3) years of political, issue or union data/organizing campaign experience. Or, a combination of education and experience that would provide for the exceptional knowledge, skills and abilities in multiple of the following:
- Skilled in the use of SQL or other coding languages
- Skilled in one or more project management methodologies.
- Expert knowledge of on-line databases (e.g. Voter Activation Network - VAN, Civis, and Catalist).
- Ability to build reports and data visualization or maps, using tools such as Tableau.
- Demonstrated analytical creativity, problem-solving abilities, and experience managing data programs.
- Knowledge of labor and/or political field organizing methods.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in politically sensitive situations. Ability to handle multiple sensitive assignments in a timely manner. Ability to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to manage relationships in complex political and organizational situations.
- High level of individual motivation, ability to set and meet clear deadlines.
- Ability to look beyond the standard solutions.
- Skilled in the use of the Google Suite of tools
- Skilled in the use of geographic and mapping software.
Physical Requirements: Work is generally performed in an office setting. Long and extended hours and some travel required
