PURPOSE:

This is a senior position responsible for advising Senior-level leadership across SEIU on how to evolve the union’s digital organizing data strategies and systems. This position will be responsible for program evaluation and reporting to help the digital team iterate and refine their operations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Any one position may not include all of the specific duties and responsibilities listed. Examples provide a general summary of the work required and should not be treated as a total and complete list of expected duties to be performed by employees in the classification.)

  • Serves as a primary digital organizing thought partner within the Data Systems and Analytics.
  • Takes the lead on ad hoc analysis projects, program evaluation, and data visualization, including scoping out analytics requests and providing a final analytics product
  • Creates and makes recommendations on statistical models for targeting
  • Develops standards and protocols for digital data, such as implementing guidance to make sure that Data Systems and Analytics department staff has consistent guidance on key metrics we should measure in all campaigns
  • Collaborates with the Data Engineering team to scope improvements to data systems, such as building data pipelines, defining key metrics, and reporting workflows.
  • Consults on new projects under the guidance of the Senior Program Manager for Analytics and in collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders on creative solutions to analytics challenges.
  • Reviews code to ensure that SEIU is using best practices.
  • Develops and implements training in the use of digital and social media data in organizing campaigns
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the work of SEIU’s programs and priorities.

DIRECTION AND DECISION MAKING:

This position reports to the Senior Program Manager for Analytics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

At least four (4) years of political, issue or union internal and external organizing campaigns experience, at least two (2) years’ experience in data, and 2 years working with data for digital or social media campaigns. Or, a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Strong technical background in statistical analysis with expertise in digital analytics
  • A deep understanding of SQL and familiarity with popular data warehouses, such as Redshift
  • 1+ years of experience with Python 3 (3.6+ preferred) including familiarity with concepts like:
  • Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn. Equivalent experience in R is also welcomed as long as you’re willing to learn Python
  • Proficiency in Google Sheets
  • Experience in an Agile Environment, preferably using JIRA
  • Ability to explain analytics concepts to stakeholders and ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral presentation
  • A high level of judgment, leadership, and commitment to the goals of SEIU

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of technology commonly used in campaigns (e.g. Voter Activation Network - VAN, Catalist, Action Network)
  • Knowledge of labor unions and their operations is helpful
  • Expertise of data visualization best practices
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders and external vendors and can clearly articulate risks and dependencies on projects
  • Experience with: Gitlab-CI, Apache Airflow, DBT, REST API interactions, ETL/ELT, Looker

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is generally performed in an office setting. Long and extended hours and some travel required.

TESTS/CERTIFICATIONS:

Analytical writing sample required.

Twelve (12) months.
