Salary Range: $82k - $90k
Position SummaryThe Hub Project has an immediate opening for an Associate Communications Director, Democracy Campaigns to drive media coverage for pro-democracy and accountability campaigns. The Associate Director will be responsible for pitching press and managing rapid response strategy, including leading development of written materials like press releases, working directly with reporters to shape stories, and placing opposition research, among other responsibilities. This person should be very plugged into the congressional political news cycle, have close media relationships and have a demonstrated interest in mentoring and growing junior staff.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks :
- Work closely with the Communications Director to develop and execute creative communications strategies that drive media coverage
- Build and maintain strong relationships with political press, local reporters and broadcast producers
- Drive earned media outreach by proactively pitching national and local stories
- Work closely with the Communications Associate and Senior Writer to develop written press products like press releases, fact sheets and talking points, and other materials as appropriate
- Manage a comprehensive media monitoring operation to identify opportunities and respond to the news cycle quickly and effectively
- Organize and execute press events and rallies in D.C. and in target districts
- Pitch and prepare spokespeople for interviews
- Leverage polling and other tools to sharpen and strengthen the narrative
- All employees of NVF are required to complete timesheets
Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
- At least 5 years of demonstrated, relevant work experience in media relations, campaigns, issue advocacy, agency, political or other relevant settings
- Creative problem solver and team player with a sense of urgency
- Experience managing and mentoring junior staff and interns
- Robust network of political press relationships and demonstrated experience pitching media
- A deep understanding of earned media management and political news, and a creative approach to garnering press coverage
- Excellent writing and editing skills and the ability to turn around press product under tight deadlines during rapid response situations
- Well organized with the ability to prioritize across multiple projects and meet state goals under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to progressive causes and equity
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within team settings
- Flexibility and an openness to evolving responsibilities
This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit; specific employment terms and conditions are subject to labor-management negotiations and a potential Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Benefits
Comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 120 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment.
