This position is contingent upon contract award.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Frontend Software Engineer (UX-adjacent) to build and improve the user-facing workflows that power complex federal software programs. In this role, you’ll take UX/Human Design Factors research, prototypes, and acceptance criteria, and turn them into production-grade UI slices that are usable, accessible, and reliable under real operating constraints.
You will work closely with a cross-functional team (UX/HF, product, backend, and delivery) to implement information-dense screens, guided flows, and decision-support experiences where clarity and error handling matter as much as visuals. You’ll build with strong attention to state management, validation, and degraded-mode behavior (what happens when data is late, partial, or unavailable), while contributing tests and documentation that make the UI easier to maintain. This is a great fit for someone who likes pairing with design, shipping iteratively, and learning how to build user-centered interfaces that hold up in production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build web UI workflows for data-rich, decision-centric user journeys.
- Integrate with APIs and implement robust loading/error/degraded states.
- Collaborate with UX/HF on prototypes, usability findings, and acceptance criteria.
- Implement accessibility-aware UI patterns and measurable usability improvements.
- Add UI test automation where feasible; support release readiness evidence.
- Document UI behavior assumptions and workflow edge cases.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of frontend engineering, building complex web applications.
- Strong state management + API integration experience.
- Can build resilient UIs (performance, debuggability, error handling).
- Experience collaborating with designers/researchers; can translate prototypes into working UI.
- Familiarity with accessibility/usability best practices.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Must be able to meet any other requirements for government contracts for which they are hired (e.g., must reside in the U.S., Security Clearances).
- Some of our clients may request or require travel from time to time. If this concerns you, we encourage you to apply and discuss it during your initial interview.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting federal or defense software programs.
- Experience building dashboards/operational UIs and data-heavy views.
- Experience in regulated environments (accessibility compliance, auditability).
- Experience with end-to-end test automation for UI workflows.
Why Join theta.?:
- Collaborate with a talented and passionate team committed to making a difference through mission-driven delivery.
- Work on impactful projects that directly contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of our country’s operations.
- Enjoy a supportive and inclusive work environment that fosters growth, learning, and professional development.
- Benefit from a competitive compensation package, including comprehensive health benefits, retirement plans, and flexible work arrangements.
If you are a driven and results-oriented frontend engineer who enjoys building usable, resilient interfaces, and you want your work to directly reduce friction for real users in complex environments, we encourage you to apply and join our team at theta.
