BFL Digital Outreach Specialist

The Black Futures Lab (BFL) is an innovation and experimentation lab focused on new ways of engaging Black communities civically and building our capacity to be powerful in politics. We close the gap between our communities and the tools we need to build power. This role will be solely assigned to complete The Black Census Project is the largest survey of Black people in America in 157 years.
The Digital Outreach Specialist position will be based remotely and contracted through December 21, 2023. This role will work closely with the Unemployed Workers United (UWU) National Digital Organizing Team.

Key Relationships: UWU National Digital Organizer, UWU Digital Outreach Coordinators
Location: Remote, flexible for the ideal candidate
Start and End Date: ASAP – Thursday, December 21st 2023
Digital Outreach Specialists are responsible for the following for their work hours:
- Sending initial peer-2-peer (“P2P”) text messages.
- Fielding replies in accordance to scripts and referencing provided training and materials to ensure that text replies and phone calls are quality.
- Making calls using an auto-dialer and manual dialer.
- Communicating with program managers regarding resources and materials needs, scheduling, and program and messaging success.
- Complying with all relevant P2P texting laws and guidelines.
- Tracking the hours they clock in and out to submit weekly invoices.
Qualifications and Skills:
- You will need access to wifi and a laptop, computer, or tablet.
- Comfort with technology and working remotely or virtually.
- Have experience communicating through digital platforms, such as Zoom and Slack.
- Strong commitment to racial, social, economic, and gender justice
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- A goal-driven, detail-oriented self-starter and problem-solver with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
- Have experience using:
- A peer-to-peer platform such as Spoke, Hustle, or Impactive
- A phone banking platform such as Scale to Win or Impactive
- A digital messaging platform such as Slack
- Have experience in being virtual volunteer in a remote or virtual team
- Have experience as a volunteer or staffer on a political campaign, labor union, or related movement projects that utilize digital tools.
- Multilingual speaking, reading, and writing skills (not required)
Compensation:
This is a temporary contracted position that will last through December 21, 2023. This role does not include benefits. Qualified candidates will be compensated at $20 per hour and can work up to 20 hours per week. Each person will track and invoice for hours worked while managing their own flexible hours within operating hours independently.
