Director of Partnerships

Location: Remote with light travel (conferences, staff collaboration, etc).

Reporting: This role is housed within VoteAmerica and reports directly to the CEO.

This is an independent contributor role designed for a high-capacity builder who can work autonomously while leveraging existing wins, tools, and relationships. The long-term vision is to grow a team as success demands (likely in sales support or partner success), but in the near term, you’ll be VoteAmerica’s lead ambassador for embedding our tools through strategic partnerships.

Role summary:

Right now is a critical time to invest in the most effective and efficient voter mobilization strategies to preserve and protect American democracy.

VoteAmerica is seeking a vital role: a high-capacity, mission-driven Director of Partnerships to scale the reach of our proven civic tech tools (VoteAmerica+) by embedding them in the platforms people already use in everyday life. This role is an opportunity to engage millions of voters while they are filing taxes, changing their address, registering for school, or opening a bank account.

We’re looking for a strategic closer who can own the full lifecycle of partnerships. The need is urgent, the tools are battle-tested, and the opportunity is vast.

In your first three months, success means building new relationships, setting and calibrating ambitious growth targets, and gaining fluency in our tech, messaging, and high-impact verticals. In this role, your north star is impact: we measure success by how many voters take action because of the partnerships you build. That means hundreds of thousands (and soon millions) of people engaging with our tools through the systems they already trust.

You’ll be expected to roll up your sleeves and take ownership from day one, but we recognize no one can do everything at once. A key part of the role is exercising sound judgment: identifying what needs to happen now, what can wait, and how to sequence your work based on capacity and impact.

We’re looking to fill this role ASAP.

Compensation: This is a full-time, salaried position ranging from $115,000 to $135,000 annually, based on experience.

About VoteAmerica

VoteAmerica builds technology to simplify political engagement, increase voter turnout, and strengthen American democracy.

At its core, VoteAmerica is an innovation organization. We have pioneered everything from using P2P text messaging to college media marketing to pre-registration technology. You might call us the research and development wing of democracy work: the strategies we pioneer today are the ones that other initiatives and organizations will be adopting in the years to come.

Our voter mobilization strategies deliver results. See our most recent biannual report here.

About Partnerships at VoteAmerica

VoteAmerica has built a best-in-class suite of voter engagement tools, collectively known as VoteAmerica+. This suite includes everything from voter registration and pre-registration to vote-by-mail enrollment and election reminders. These tools are fully developed, field-tested, and easily embeddable into partner platforms. Over 100 companies and organizations leverage VoteAmerica software as a service to their customers or constituents.

In 2020, our partnership with Credit Karma mobilized nearly 600,000 voters in under three months. Feel Good Action has since used our tools to power large-scale outreach to young people (online, on the ground, and through their national nonprofit network) driving nearly 1 million voter actions. In both cases, VoteAmerica’s embeddable tools enabled high-volume, low-friction participation.

VoteAmerica is laser-focused on high-impact verticals that collectively reach tens of millions of Americans each year, including:

  • High school students (16.4M eligible to vote by 2028)
  • Movers (40M people relocate and change their address annually)
  • Tax filers (150M annually)
  • College students (19.5M enrolled)

These are not the sector’s typical media or celebrity partnerships. They’re persistent, scalable, and integrated into ordinary life moments — like applying to college, moving homes, filing taxes, or registering for classes. We want to be where people fill out forms online.

In this role, a day-one priority will be scaling FutureVoter, a standout initiative built on our pre-registration technology. FutureVoter is a branded, audience-specific campaign designed to engage and pre-register millions of high school students before they turn 18. You’ll drive partnerships with platforms like student banking services or the Common App (which alone reaches over 1 million high schoolers annually).

Beyond FutureVoter, you’ll also develop new strategies to activate other tools in our technology suite. For example, you might target tax filers through partnerships with tax preparation services or financial institutions, or launch a campaign to promote absentee voting via employers or healthcare providers.

About the Director of Partnerships role

The Director of Partnerships will own the full lifecycle of VoteAmerica’s strategic partnerships, from prospecting to renewal, with targeted support from other team members. You’ll be responsible for building and managing a high-quality pipeline, developing tailored proposals, leading pitches and negotiations, closing deals, and delivering outstanding partner service that leads to long-term adoption and civic impact. This role is both strategic and hands-on: you’ll work across sectors to embed our tools into high-traffic platforms and deliver measurable voter engagement at scale.

You'll manage your pipeline in HubSpot (CRM) with strategic support, including brainstorming, connections, and cross-team collaboration, from the Chief of Staff, CEO, and Head of Mobilization.

Specifically, you will:

  • Develop a structured pipeline of prospective partners. This will include qualified corporations, agencies, nonprofits, political campaigns, etc.
  • Prioritize verticals with the highest potential for civic impact and scalable reach, including education, finance, and government-adjacent platforms.
  • Serve as a confident and compelling ambassador and spokesperson for the organization and its products in collaboration with VoteAmerica’s CEO.
  • Together with internal stakeholders, articulate the value proposition and refine the “pitch” to prospective partners.
  • Meet with and deliver presentations to pitch FutureVoter and other tools to prospective partners and nurture relationships.
  • Design and execute go-to-market strategies for new audience-specific campaigns, including positioning, outreach tactics, and partner engagement plans.
  • Negotiate and finalize agreements with new partners and provide outstanding client service that leads to renewal and long-term commitments.
  • Develop new branding and marketing collateral as needed (VoteAmerica already has a strong organizational voice and brand identity).
  • Represent VoteAmerica at external meetings, conferences, and industry events to elevate our presence and identify new partnership opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with marketing, product, mobilization, communications, and legal team members.
  • Play a key role in continuous improvement of VoteAmerica’s technology by maintaining feedback loops between partners and the product teams.
  • Rapidly iterate on partner outreach and onboarding strategies based on data, feedback, and changing platform dynamics.
  • Maintain shared pipeline reports (e.g., in CRM tools) for transparency of overall performance against goals and objectives.
  • Define and track partnership success metrics, including user reach, tool activations, and engagement over time.
  • Work together with VoteAmerica leadership to ensure partnerships align with broader organizational strategic priorities.
  • Build communications strategies around partnership wins to amplify impact, attract new partners, and reinforce VoteAmerica’s leadership.

This role will be staffed within VoteAmerica and report directly to the CEO.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, these attributes will be important:

  • At least 6+ years of success building long-term, strategic partnerships with corporate, nonprofit, or other strategic partners.
  • Experience with SaaS or other technology-focused product sales, and/or you can pick up and understand the value proposition of new technology quickly.
  • Experience in building and managing high-quality partner pipelines and long-term relationships, especially in business development, or strategic partnerships roles where rapid growth, fast cycles, and sustained engagement were critical.
  • You understand that strong strategic partnerships are grounded in shared values and goals.
  • You are an engaging and clear communicator with exceptional writing and presentation chops.
  • You are creative on your feet. You have the ability and flexibility to recognize when to shift gears to better align with what a potential partner is prepared to offer.
  • You are entrepreneurial (a “builder”) and enjoy taking full responsibility for running the ship to hit key milestones.
  • You are well-organized, proactive, persistent, and excited to tackle a broad range of projects. You get joy out of optimizing your time.
  • You create thoughtful systems and processes, but you also know how to adapt and rebuild them as your team or the organization evolves.
  • You have some managerial experience since the goal is to grow the team as the program sees success and expands.
  • You have experience shaping communications or storytelling strategies to amplify program wins and organizational visibility.
  • You’re comfortable using data to inform strategy, measure performance, and optimize partnerships over time.

While not required, a strong candidate might have some of the following:

  • Existing relationships or connection with potential partners
  • Experience with VoteAmerica’s goal verticals, for instance you had a role in an industry that serves 13-17 year olds or movers
  • A deep understanding of the issues impacting voting and voter turnout in the United States.
  • Experience working closely with contractors, content creators, engineers, coders and/or issue campaigners.

You will be most successful in this role if the following is true:

  • You value being part of a team of people who ask themselves every single day: What can we do, today, to ensure that US Democracy not only survives, but thrives, over the decades to come?
  • Most of VoteAmerica’s Principles and Values resonate with you.
  • You have a track record of successfully working and building trust across lines of personal difference in service to shared goals.
  • You are humble enough to both give and receive clear, specific feedback as a gift, and you are curious about other points of view.
  • As a member of a small team, you not only look for solutions to problems, you look for the simplest solution. You prefer to avoid creating unnecessary complexity.
  • You are comfortable taking responsibility for moving your work product forward. You like to develop your own work plan and personal deliverables. However, you also have good instincts for when to lean on your own initiative and when to ask for guidance, input, help, or validation from your team.
  • You aren’t afraid to question “how the work has always been done.” You believe we can’t deliver a better future if we simply repeat strategies that worked in the past.
  • You recognize that mistakes are an integral part of constantly improving (both personally, and as an organization).

We know there are awesome candidates who may not check every single box listed above, or who are competent in ways we haven’t thought of that could be key to the success of this position. If that’s you, please don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.
