The role of the NYWFP Volunteer Program Organizer will help coordinate recruitment, training, mobilizations and other activities that support the electoral goals of priority races.
The person in this role will work closely with campaign staff to develop and lead trainings of volunteers, and implement mobilization strategies with an eye at recruiting campaign volunteers as long term active WFP chapter members.
As part of the organizing team, the Organizer coordinates with WFP staff, members of chapters, and the Field Director of priority campaigns to connect our growing grassroots base with the day to day strategic goals of the New York WFP.
This is a temporary position through the June 2026 New York City primary with the possibility of extension.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruit and develop volunteers.
  • Lead volunteer trainings, mobilizations and canvasses.
  • Help coordinate petition canvasses.
  • Develop an engagement plan for chapter members of priority campaigns.
  • Meet personal weekly recruitment goals.
  • Record data on a daily basis and provide the team with quantitative and qualitative results on your work.
  • Track supporters and members and their leadership development in EveryAction and build a team of members capable of this.
  • Work with senior staff of priority campaigns to execute electoral strategies and goals.
  • Plan and host events including phone-banks, canvasses, and other voter contact events.
  • Work with WFP’s leadership team to coordinate and provide a member development strategy from campaign volunteers to chapter members.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-2 cycles of organizing experience or similar experience.
  • Ability to work independently, and to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Ability and willingness to travel across NYC (and possibly to other parts of the state), as needed.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage organizing campaignsAttention to detail and the ability to manage the technical aspects of a project such as logistics, paperwork, deadlines, etc.
  • Experience with (or willingness to learn) common campaign tech tools like EveryAction, VotiVate, and relational organizing tools.
  • Ability to communicate compellingly about WFP’s work and inspire others to action, whether one-on-one or in a large group.
  • A passion and demonstrated commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.
  • Critical thinking, problem solving skills, drive and tenacity.
  • Familiarity with New York City politics preferred.
  • Fluency in languages other than English is a plus

LOCATION AND SCHEDULE

  • The position is based in New York City.
  • This is a temporary, full-time position that ends on 6/30/2026.

  • Working Families Party / Working Families Power is a unionized workplace. This is a short term temporary role that is not eligible for inclusion in WFP’s staff bargaining unit. WFP's union employees are represented by the New York Metropolitan Area Joint Board, Workers United union.

68100 - 90000 USD a year

The final salary for this role will be determined based on our Pay Scale, which takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description. The upper end of the salary range is reserved for individuals who significantly exceed the minimum qualifications and years of experience.
