This role will support the development and execution of a Yale Center for Environmental Communication speaker series that brings in inspiring practitioners of environmental communication that 1) model how to build public and political will to address environmental challenges and 2) equips attendees with the skills to engage in strategic communication themselves to solve environmental problems. Potential topics for the series will include: transformational organizing; closing the climate communication gap in Black media; global climate change journalism, particularly in high GHG-emitting countries like India, China and Brazil; leveraging social media influences on behalf of the climate; implications of climate change for labor; or translating cutting edge environmental scholarship for a public interested in solutions. The student will contribute to shaping the series’ direction and have the opportunity to pursue topics of personal interest. Please see examples of past YCEC-hosted events at: https://climatecommunication.yale.edu/news-events/category/videos-events/The ideal candidate is comfortable driving projects independently, has strong event management and event logistics experience, especially with remotely-conducted and hosted events (i.e., via Zoom) and communicates effectively in a hybrid working environment. This student will shape webinar topics, identify and recruit speakers and moderators, serve as the main point of contact with experts in various fields, market the series to internal and external audiences, and synthesize key takeaways from each event for publication on the YPCCC website.
