Established in 1990, GLSEN is a multi-racial intergenerational LGBTQ+ organization working nationally and locally to transform K-12 educational systems and democracy in the United States. Our mission is to ensure that every member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

We coordinate a network of 43 Chapters in 30 states across the nation, and we partner with local, state and national advocates and supportive educators, to transform our nation’s
K-12 schools into the safe and affirming learning environments all youth deserve; through programs, advocacy, research, and public policy work.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Chapter Network Associate is essential for providing administrative support to the Chapter Network & Movement Building department, including assisting with various departmental projects and tasks, as well as supporting the department with cross-team engagement. The Chapter Network Associate will be responsible for Chapter communications (e.g., emails, newsletters), database management, post-meeting follow up, and updating program materials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Administrative support to the Chapter Network & Movement Building Team
- Maintain professionalism across lines of power [national/local, staff/volunteer, youth/adult] within all relationships in the GLSEN context.
- Coordinate and schedule all team-wide meetings.
- Assist with routine department communication, such as preparing pre-read materials and reminder emails for department calls. ● Process routine reimbursement reports, credit card logs, etc. in compliance with Finance team’s best practices. ● Routinely update all relevant databases for Chapter network. ● Provide ongoing support for all relevant projects and tasks. Oversee Chapter Communications ● Develop and maintain a regular communication schedule with Chapter leaders. ● Act as frontline support to Chapters by regularly monitoring the chapters@glsen.org email inboxes to ensure that all emails are read and acknowledged within 24 hours of receipt and that issues are resolved within one week. ● Under guidance of Chapter Organizing Manager, establish professional trusting relationships and demonstrate reliability with Chapter leaders. ● Work with Chapter leaders to surface, aggregate, and communicate Chapter needs, concerns and requests – working to understand the themes that are coming in - and work with department leadership and across national staff to identify solutions. ● Schedule out all relevant Chapter communications (emails, newsletters, etc.). ● Ensure Chapters have access to existing and updated national resources. ● Support Chapter Development Manager with tracking Chapter work plans in connection to the greater department’s work plans.
LOCATION
This is a remote position, within the continental United States.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- A combined minimum of 2-3 years of supporting multifaceted teams, ideally pertaining to organizational membership, volunteers, directly impacted communities, and/or community organizers.
- Experience working with and in the LGBTQI+ and Two Spirit movement and a keen understanding of the top issues within the movement.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on issues in a timely manner.
- Ability to develop and manage effective business relationships, demonstrate reliability, and respond proactively to feedback from colleagues and supervisor; understanding of and ability to maintain professionalism across lines of power [national/local, staff/volunteer, youth/adult] within the GLSEN context.
- Ability to be professional, diplomatic, resolve conflict, and problem-solve.
- Strong analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated collaborative work style, strong attention to detail, and ability to be a self-starter on multiple projects.
- Ability to travel occasionally, as needed within the United States.
- Working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of Google Suite.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing intersectional equity: Racial, Gender, and Disability Justice.
- Familiarity with, and a passion for, LGBTQ+ issues in K-12 education.
- Enthusiastic support of GLSEN’s strategic vision, mission, and goals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee will or may be occasionally required to do the following:
Stand; walk; sit; speak and hear while communicating with others to exchange information; repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; use hands to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. SALARY RANGE
The salary for this position is $64,000.00 annually.
