Established in 1990, GLSEN is a multi-racial intergenerational LGBTQ+ organization working nationally and locally to transform K-12 educational systems and democracy in the United States.

Our mission is to ensure that every member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. Our vision is for students to be able to learn and for teachers to be able to teach, schools must be at a minimum safe from harm.

At GLSEN, our shared mission and vision, drive all that we do. We coordinate a network of 43 Chapters in 30 states across the nation, and we partner with local, state and national advocates and supportive educators, to transform our nation’s K-12 schools into the safe and affirming learning environments all youth deserve; through programs, advocacy, research, and public policy work.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Oregon Chapter Manager plays a pivotal role in advancing GLSEN Oregon’s mission to create safer and more inclusive schools for LGBTQ+ students. This position is responsible for leading strategic program implementation, advocacy efforts, partnership development, and Chapter operations, while also serving as the Chapter’s representative within GLSEN’s National Chapter Network. Reporting directly to the Director of Chapter Network & Movement Building, the Oregon Chapter Manager ensures alignment with GLSEN’s Student Success Plan (SSP), with a particular focus on addressing the needs of rural and underserved communities. This grant-funded role is guaranteed for at least three years, with future continuation contingent upon the chapter’s ability to secure additional funding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Program Implementation

  • Lead GLSEN Oregon’s key initiatives, including the Rainbow Library program, needs assessments, and support for Gender and Sexuality Alliances (GSAs).
  • Develop and manage project timelines, deliverables, and goals to ensure measurable impact.

Advocacy and Policy Leadership

  • Drive advocacy efforts, including advancing the Rise Up Proclamation and promoting inclusive local and state-level policies for LGBTQ+ students.
  • Represent GLSEN Oregon at school board meetings and public forums.

Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with educators, policymakers, families, and community organizations.
  • Conduct outreach and listening sessions with LGBTQ+ students, families, and educators, prioritizing voices from rural and underserved communities.
  • Represent GLSEN Oregon in GLSEN’s National Chapter Network, fostering collaboration and sharing best practices across chapters.

LOCATION

This is a remote position; however, candidates must reside in Oregon to effectively support the chapter's local initiatives and communities.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience in program leadership, advocacy, or community organizing, preferably in LGBTQ+ education or youth-focused initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of LGBTQ+ issues, intersectionality, and equity in education.
  • Excellent skills in communication, presentation, and relationship-building.
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets, securing funding, and leading teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently in a remote, statewide context.
  • Familiarity with Oregon’s educational landscape, particularly in rural and underserved areas, is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of positive youth development, anti-oppression frameworks, and youth-adult partnerships is preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience in grassroots campaigns or community organizing with a proven record of success is preferred.
  • Experience with constituent management systems (e.g., EveryAction) is preferred.

SALARY RANGE

The salary for this position is $60,000.00 annually.
