Graphicacy, a data visualization, design and interactive studio, is recruiting an experienced data visualization engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about innovative front-end solutions and capable of engineering cutting-edge digital experiences for Graphicacy’s clients. This role requires an engineer who is as effective writing code as they are in talking to clients and collaborating with designers, project managers, and other engineers, with a combination of programming skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.) and aesthetic sensibility. We are a dynamic team that works fast — we want forward-thinking, self-motivated people excited about new opportunities. Our team is distributed throughout the US and this position is fully remote.About the Role:- Craft innovative and performant engineering solutions by building beautiful and informative interactive and static data visualizations, online applications and information graphics.- Play a key role in turning client ideas into executable solutions considering needs, design opportunities and limitations, and technical options.- Collaborate with Graphicacy’s developers and designers to create feasible solutions to client visions and constraints.- Be an empathic technology guide: help clients understand what’s possible and best given resources, skills, and maintenance needs; translate requirements into designed interfaces; provide technical documentation or summary guides.- Help make Graphicacy better: provide input on technology toolkit and approaches; efficiently troubleshoot and triage issues; support existing software with quick troubleshooting and resolution.About You:- 5-7 years’ experience as a software or data visualization engineer.- Advanced knowledge or experience with modern SPA frameworks such as React, Angular, and/or Vue.- Experience with D3, canvas, or other visualization libraries and tools.- Passion for and experience in data visualization and information graphics.- Familiarity with full-stack technologies such as Python, NodeJS, and AWS/Google Cloud/Azure.- Experience building map-based visualizations using Mapbox, Leaflet, OpenLayers, or comparable geospatial tools.- Ability to lead scoping and development conversations for both technical and non-technical participants.- Fluency in a wide variety of interactive product approaches (dashboards, scrollytelling microsites, etc.) with ability to learn and adapt quickly.- Experience creating suitable front-end engineering methods and data models aligned with designs.- Fluent in JavaScript and TypeScript.- Experience with discovery processes to understand client needs and match with technical solutions.- Skilled at planning and implementing custom technical solutions from scratch.- Develop accessible code with comprehensive tests and documentation.- Experience mentoring and guiding other engineers.Bonus:- Holistic engineering planning and strategy integrating back-end and front-end requirements (data storage/ingestion, processing, CMS, authentication).- Experience using static site generators such as Gatsby and Next.js.- Experience with Three.js, React Three Fiber, or other WebGL libraries.- Knowledge of statistical analysis (SQL, R, Python or other packages).- Experience with front-end animation libraries such as react-spring or GSAP.About Us and Benefits:Graphicacy is a mission-driven data visualization and design studio in Washington, DC, with Brooklyn, and Los Angeles.
