Graphicacy, a data visualization, design and interactive studio, is recruiting an experienced data visualization engineer to join our team.The ideal candidate for this role will be passionate about innovative front-end solutions. They will be capable of engineering cutting-edge digital experiences for Graphicacy’s clients to continue to set Graphicacy apart as a leader in innovative and well designed digital products.This position is for an engineer who has the ability to be as effective writing code as they are in talking to clients and collaborating with designers, project managers, and other engineers. They will possess a combination of programming skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.) and aesthetic sensibility. We are a dynamic team that works fast — as such, we want to work with people who are forward thinking, self-motivated and excited about new opportunities.Our team is distributed throughout the US and this position is fully remote.About the Role:- Work with Graphicacy’s clients to build beautiful and informative interactive and static data visualizations, online applications and information graphics.- Play a key role in helping to turn client ideas into executable solutions considering their needs, design opportunities and limitations, and technical options.- Collaborate with Graphicacy’s internal team of developers and designers to create feasible solutions to client visions and constraints.- Help clients understand what’s possible and what’s best given their resources, technical skills and capacity, and long-term maintenance needs.- Translate user and technical requirements into interactively designed interfaces for applications and products.- Facilitate and provide technical documentation or summary guides outlining various approaches to engineering solutions.- Provide ongoing input on Graphicacy’s technology toolkit and approaches, helping us to build better things and to build things better.- Efficiently troubleshoot and triage issues toward resolution on projects and software.About You:- 5-7 years’ experience as a software or data visualization engineer.- Advanced knowledge or experience with modern SPA JS frameworks such as React, Angular, and/or Vue.- Experience with D3, canvas, or other visualization libraries and tools.- Familiarity with full-stack technologies such as Python, NodeJS, and AWS/Google Cloud/Azure.- Experience building map-based visualizations using Mapbox, Leaflet, OpenLayers, or comparable geospatial packages or applications.- Ability to lead scoping and development conversations for technical and non-technical participants alike.- Fluency in approaches to a wide variety of interactive products (data explorers, dashboards, scrollytelling microsites, etc.).- Fluent in both JavaScript and TypeScript.- Experience participating and/or leading discovery processes to develop a deep understanding of client needs and goals and match those with technical solutions.- Skilled at planning and implementing custom technical solutions from scratch.- Strive to develop accessible code with comprehensive tests and thorough documentation.- Experience mentoring and guiding other engineers to arrive at technical solutions.Bonus:- Experience with holistic engineering planning and strategy for client consultations and project builds that integrate and economize on back-end and front-end requirements.- Experience using static site generators such as Gatsby and Next.js.- Experience with Three.js, React Three Fiber, or other WebGL libraries.- Knowledge of statistical analysis (SQL, R, Python or other statistical packages).- Experience with front-end animation libraries such as react-spring or GSAP.About Us and Benefits:Graphicacy is a mission-driven data visualization and design studio in Washington, DC, with Brooklyn, and Los Angeles.
