Graphicacy, a data visualization, design and interactive studio, is recruiting an experienced data visualization engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about innovative front-end solutions and capable of engineering cutting-edge digital experiences for Graphicacy’s clients. This position is for an engineer who is as effective writing code as they are in talking to clients and collaborating with designers, project managers, and other engineers, with a combination of programming skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.) and aesthetic sensibility. Our team is distributed throughout the US and this position is fully remote.About the Role: • Craft innovative and performant engineering solutions: build interactive and static data visualizations, online applications and information graphics; turn client ideas into executable solutions; collaborate with developers and designers to create feasible solutions. • Be an empathic technology guide: help clients understand what’s possible; translate user and technical requirements into interactively designed interfaces; provide technical documentation or summary guides. • Help make Graphicacy better: provide input on technology toolkit and approaches; efficiently troubleshoot and triage issues; support existing software with quick troubleshooting and issue resolution.About You: • 5–7 years’ experience as a software or data visualization engineer. • Advanced knowledge of modern SPA frameworks (React, Angular, and/or Vue). • Experience with D3, canvas, or other visualization libraries and tools. • Passion for, and experience and interest in, data visualization and information graphics. • Familiarity with full-stack technologies (Python, NodeJS, AWS/Google Cloud/Azure). • Experience building map-based visualizations (Mapbox, Leaflet, OpenLayers, or similar). • Ability to lead scoping and development conversations for technical and non-technical participants. • Fluency across interactive products (dashboards, data explorers, scrollytelling microsites, etc.). • Experience creating front-end engineering methods and data models aligned with designs. • Fluent in both JavaScript and TypeScript. • Experience leading discovery processes to match client needs with technical solutions. • Skilled at planning and implementing custom technical solutions from scratch. • Commitment to accessible code with tests and documentation. • Experience mentoring and guiding other engineers. • Bonus: holistic engineering planning and strategy; static site generators (Gatsby, Next.js); Three.js/React Three Fiber/WebGL; statistical analysis (SQL, R, Python); animation libraries (react-spring, GSAP).We are looking for a smart, passionate person, and do not expect that every applicant has experience in everything we listed above.
